Al Casale (3 units sleeping 6, 4 and 4 people; shared pool) Villa Location The farmhouse is outside a village, not far from the main road, connected to it by a well kept unpaved road. There is no gate or fence, as there is only one neighbor. A tiny shopping center is behind the property, and you can have your morning cappuccino there or at a coffee shop that also sells fresh pastries 5 minutes away. Besides a small hamlet, Collodi is the largest, closest village, 8 minutes away by car. From the property you can also reach the Witches Oak, in a pleasant 25 minute walk. This ancient tree is believed to date back to the 5th century and legend has it that witches used to have their Sabbath under it! Along the walk you will also find an old cellar and wine shop, were you can do some wine tasting. Local Area In this area there is a number of beautiful historical villas you can visit: Villa Mansi, Villa Reale and Villa Torrigiani. Collodi is well know as the town of Pinocchio. There is a fun, small amusement park (see our Kids section in Useful Info) and in the Borgo Alto, the ancient part of the village, the remains of a castle and a 12th century church. The town of Pescia has an delightful square, Piazza Mazzini, and two interesting buildings, Ex Mercato dei Fiori and nuovo Mercato dei Fiori. Flower markets are held here, as this area is famous for its flowers and nurseries. Lucca is about 7 miles away. You can easily explore Lucca either on foot or bike - the latter a preferred method of transportation for the locals. Lucca is entirely encircled by its famous Renaissance wall which offers magnificent views of the city. Visitors and locals take leisurely strolls, ride bikes or jog on top of the walls. The famous elliptical Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, built on the site of an original ancient Roman amphitheater, is a lively and bustling area of Lucca with many restaurants and cafes. The Guinigi Tower, one of the two towers located in Lucca, offers breathtaking views of the city. It is easily recognized by the large oak trees growing on top of the tower! There are also many churches to visit in Lucca, the Church of San Frediano being the most famous for its white stone and beautiful mosaic facade. While in Lucca, you can also visit the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, the famous composer of Madame Butterfly, La Boheme and Tosca. On Wednesdays or Saturdays, make sure to visit the popular local market at Via dello Stadio. Owner Recommended Restaurant The owner will be happy to suggest restaurants during your stay.
