Chiocciola Apartment
(sleeps 2 people, A/C, beautiful terrace)
Villa Location
The apartment is in downtown Rapallo, close to the pedestrian area, in a residential neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle (Rapallo's center is quite lively during the summer!). Entering through a little gate and climbing a few steps you reach the main entrance door of the building, a beautiful Liberty style villa. The apartment is on the second floor and it occupies the tower of the villa, extending over three floors. From the large roof terrace you see the canal going to the sea. The beaches are just a leisurely 8 minute stroll away.
Local Area
Rapallo is a lively town with a fascinating atmosphere. Since the late 1800s it has been a fashionable shore resort with a lovely palm lined promenade, beautiful villas, elite hotels and elegant coffee houses. The Lungomare Vittorio Veneto provides incredible views of the gulf, and you can walk all the way to the castle, where art exhibits are often held. Beyond the castle you can visit the beautiful park Casale and the 17th century villa Tigullio, which houses the International Library and the Lace Museum (lace is a typical local product). Santa Margherita and the chic Portofino are just minutes away, by car or bus (about 5 miles).
Owner Recommended Restaurant
La Beccaccia, for typical Ligurian Cuisine.
Day Trips
The Ligurian coast offers plenty of day trip opportunities and it is easy to move around by train, boat or bus.

Portofino, a natural port, is a world renown location: take a stroll by the chic boutiques, admire boats and yachts in the little port and the beautiful villas all around, most of which are owned by Italian and foreign VIPs. You can take a walk to the castle of S. Giorgio and a little road in the maritime pine woods will take you to the lighthouse of Punta del Capo. The whole Portofino peninsula is a natural park and offers hikes inland and boat rides along the coast; both allow spectacular views! In S. Fruttuoso you can admire the abbey and, if you dive, the submerged statue of the Christ of the Abysses, protector of all divers.

 |
East of the Portofino peninsula you can visit these shore towns: Chiavari, Lavagna, Sestri Levante. They offer a variety of sceneries, characteristic pedestrian downtowns, beautiful beaches (some rocky, some sandy) and excellent seafood restaurants. (Between 9 and 16 miles away)

 |
West of the Protofino peninsula you can visit the shore towns of Camogli, Recco, and Nervi (between 7 and 17 miles away).

The city of Genova (about 21 miles away) has a lot to offer to visitors: its important port, the historical center with the Duomo, beautiful palazzi (most of which you can visit) and squares (Piazza S. Matteo is the most popular one), several museums and the 17th century castle, Palazzo Reale. Genova also boasts Italy's largest and best aquarium.

Cinqueterre (about 40 miles away): Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are the five colorful fishing villages, nestled up against steep cliffs, also known as Cinqueterre (literally "five towns"). The scenery is gorgeous! You can hike from one to the next, take the train (with special day passes) or visit them on a boat tour.

Portovenere sits at the very tip of another little peninsula off the Golfo di La Spezia, overlooking some tiny islands. The village and views are fascinating, and provided inspiration to Byron and Shelly, who favored the place. This is why the gulf is often referred to as the Golfo dei Poeti (about 58 miles away).

 |
In Lerici you can visit the impressive Castle, housing an interesting geo-paleological museum (about 52 miles away).
|
 |
You can also visit Tuscany's Versilian coast, where Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio are the main towns. Lucca and Pisa are both about 85 miles away from Rapallo.
