Como Apartment
(sleeps 2, center of town)
Apartment Location
The apartment is located in the historical center of Como, which is mainly a pedestrian area. The building dates from 1400 and has the typical "corte", which is an interior courtyard. The apartment is on the third floor, and is reached by climbing about 36 steps. Nearby parking garages offer weekly passes. A nice cafe-gelateria is just outside your doorstep; a grocery store is within walking distance and larger supermarkets are about half a mile away. Chic shops and boutiques are an irresistible temptation! Take a stroll on the lakefront promenade, 5 minutes away on foot.
Local Area
Como is a well known, stylish city at the tip of the western branch of Lake Lario, also known as Lake Como. The city was founded in 196 BC and evolved in subsequent ages. These ages can be traced in Romanesque churches, medieval buildings, Gothic and Renaissance styles, as well as the Rationalistic architecture of the thirties. Strolling around you can enjoy the elegant atmosphere, the peaceful lake. Admire the Duomo, the Broletto which is the ancient town hall, S. Fedele and S. Abbondio churches. An interesting site is the Tempietto Voltiano, which houses a small museum dedicated to Volta, the inventor of the battery. Como is also famous for the production of silk: you can visit the silk museum and, of course, shop for beautiful accessories. For a breathtaking vista, take the funicular railway to Brunate and enjoy the view! The beautiful mountains offer great paths for hikers. On the lake you can go sailing, or simply take one of the many boat tours offered.
Owner Recommended Restaurants
Plenty of good restaurants are within walking distance. For local cuisine try Il Solito Posto. For wine tasting, the enoteca I Gradoni. For good pizza go to Il Pomodorino.
